Spaceteers

The mission team that won for the most informative news article was Team Neptune. The following is their article:

On Friday July 15, 2005 members of the Federation of Galaxy Explorers stationed at Liberty Middle School in Clifton, VA will launch a rocket into space.  They will be making a voyage to the moon.  The members of this organization are all children between the ages of 10 and 15.  They will be launching at half past 12 in the afternoon from the base at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.  This is the first time that people under the age of 18 have been on a voyage to space, let alone to the moon.  They’re being funded by NASA.  To get ready for this mission, the children have gone through many different forms of training such as classes to learn about the lunar environment, outer space’s harsh condition and setting up a base that can sustain human life on the moon.  The camp run by the Federation of Galaxy Explorers is doing all of this.

Moony Mission Weekly

On July 15 Team Neptune will be launching a Rocket to the Moon.  There we will be building a moon base for future missions.  In order for this to happen we will be raising taxes for everyone.  Too bad for everyone else because we won’t be here to pay them.  But it will help us and ruin everyone else’s lives while we are in space.

The world witnessed the dawn of a new group of students at F.O.G.E. space camp located at Liberty Middle School in Clifton, Virginia. We learned many interesting things about space, so that we will be able to create Moon Base I.

We split up into four groups, and we became the Space Monkeys. Then we went outside and did a “tangly Wangly thing” called the Pretzel. After that we watched a video of President Bush promoting the space program. We played an interesting moon landing game. Logan did the best out of our group. We figured what we needed when stranded on the moon. After that two patch designers came and showed us different patches from the space program. Then we designed and drew our own patches for our group. After lunch we made a radio commercial to sell moon rocks to fund the moon base program. We were given a theme, which was Star Wars. “Space Camp was super doper!”

Team Mars is going to the moon and we shall be there for 1 year.  But there’s a lot to do before that such as making a shield to protect us from radiation also food and water will be required.  We’re going to create a biosphere.  We will need to grow plants, creating an atmosphere for human and animal life, this process creates food.

During the first day, we designed patches with different symbols and colors to make our patches. Later, we made a radio broadcast about selling moon rocks, but we had to do it while pretending to be people in a movie (i.e. Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings).

We are on a mission to build a moon base and the activities we did are preparing us for it.

G.E.Moonwalkers

We interrupt this program for a very short news report.  The Federation of Galaxy Explorers took lift off today on July 11th, 2005.  We interviewed some of these kids here, to see how they felt about being a part of the mission.  Quang says, “It’s been fun so far and it’s only the first day!”  Stephan says, “I’m never bored.”  And the future science star Scott says, “Man… I can’t wait to eat.”  These comments were just some few compliments of many Fairfax County Students.  These students are separated into 4 groups at Liberty Middle school: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune.  The groups were also separated by age group.  Galaxy Explorers are committed to completing this mission, working form 9 am – 4 pm.
